History

The Canadian Professional Association for Transgender Health (CPATH) was conceived in 2007 when a group of Canadian health care providers met at the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Symposium in Chicago. The focus of this group was to form a network of care providers across the country that could meet and share ideas and research. We became a legal non-profit society in March of 2008.

Vision

A Canada without barriers to the health, well-being and self-actualization of trans and gender diverse people.

Mission

CPATH is an interdisciplinary professional organization which works to support the health, wellbeing, and dignity of trans and gender diverse people through:

  1. Educating professionals and enabling knowledge exchange to develop and promote best practices,
  2. Facilitating networks and fostering supportive environments for professionals working with and for trans people,
  3. Encouraging research to expand knowledge and deepen understanding about sex and gender diversity,
  4. Advocating, in accordance with CPATH’s advocacy policy as may be established or amended from time to time, for institutional, policy, and legislative change by utilizing our collective knowledge and expertise,
  5. Addressing the population and geographic diversity of Canada in CPATH’s work; and,
  6. Building CPATH’s organizational capacity to realize its mission.

CPATH seeks to be both connected with and responsive to the needs emerging from gender diverse and trans people and communities. We strive to include representation from community support groups and trans persons on committees, the board, and as members at large.
